It has also undertaken the construction of a 2X125MW coal fired power station in Barapukuria, as a general contractor, which is the first coal-fired power plant in Bangladesh. Under this project, CMC cooperates with two well-known British consulting companies, WARDELL ARMSTRONG and INTERNATIONAL MINING CONSULTANCY, to render consulting service related to mine construction and production while working with PDP from New Zealand in giving consulting service concerning water prevention, rock features and structure of coalmine. ract in June,2005 which stipulates that the joint contractor consisting of CMC and Xuzhou Mining Industry Group are responsible for the management of production system after the coal mine is turned over and 4.75 million ton raw coal would be produced for the owner within the next 68 months. It has been the largest project of the export of technology and labor service that China has in Bangladesh ever since.
Based on the Barapukuria coal mine project, CMC has made deep exploration to the energy construction market of Bangladesh and won the satisfaction of Bangladesh with the service of high quality and high efficiency which enables us to undertake two important follow-up projects (Barapukuria coal fired power plant project and Barapukurian coal mine management and production project), which is a real innovation in the history of Chinese enterprise overseas project contracting. The total contract price of all three projects amounts almost US$500 million. After construction and operation the three projects will be significant for Bangladesh to realize the diversity of energy supply and guarantee of energy security. The successful contracting and execution of these projects shows that CMC has already had the core ability to provide comprehensive resolution to the large-sized overseas energy construction projects, which not only has boosted the export of China’s technology, equipment and labor service and generated favorable comprehensive economic returns, but also won high reputation for Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh and its surrounding markets.
Barapukuria coalmine project is the first coalmine turn-key project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in the world market. This project and pit mouth power plant project are both of vital importance for Bangladesh to make advantage of its coal resources to develop domestic energy industry, which are highly valued by Chinese and Bangladesh governments. These two projects are both of great significance in promotion of bilateral economic and trade relationship between China & Bangladesh and also play a very important role in the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
